Drawing Disney Princesses has been on my "list" for a few weeks now. This illustration was by far one of my favorites to do, mainly because recreating something that so many people recognize is sort of a thrilling feeling. Many of my other drawings have been of subjects I've found relevant, when most people I know have no idea what they reference. This is sort of a double meaning sort of illustration. I have three friends (well two friends and one sister) that when combined, we sort of look like or resemble the princesses above (don't take this literally...). I also liked involving my friends in my drawings and making them sort of a part of it. It's really neat showing the steps you take to creating a final drawing.
As a child, my life was basically revolved around Disney and his movie tycoon. I've always had a special place in my heart for his animated films. My favorite was always The Little Mermaid because what little girl doesn't want to be a mermaid with awesome hair? I saw a photo once that said "I blame Disney for my unrealistic expectations of hair" let's just say I can relate. Anyways, I think to this day I still enjoy watching the cheesy and unrealistic tales Disney has recreated, even if they are utter bullshit. Many people (mostly mothers) see the princesses as bad examples and misguiding because many little girls take those characters as examples of physical perfection. I think if you are to take a CARTOON that far as to try and emulate one of those princesses, you have bigger problems then being "misled" by a movie. Let's just hope no little girls see my images...So basically, that's just my peace on that subject. I wonder if anybody else finds it funny that I go from a post about superhero movies to nerdy British sci-fi to Disney Princesses.
